Last Finish For 2023 ~ UFO # 10 from Podunk Pretties

Hey Sweet Friends!  The last UFO for 2023 was one of the smallest projects in the waiting to be quilted pile.  If your interested in it's history  click here.

The table runner was made with the scraps of four other quilts.  One of those quilts was gifted to my son.  So he might as well have a table runner match.  It's fun to finish these old projects, free up some space in the studio, then clutter my sons house with the projects instead of adding them to my HUGE stash of finished quilts.  He already has several quilts ...

Cabin In The Woods ~ UFO #9 2023 from Podunk Pretties

These simple quilts are my favorite to make.   They come together quickly and with a little added applique they really shine.

They also mix well with other more complicated quilts when displayed.  The larger patchwork gives the eye a place to land. I feel like the quilting design can do the same.  Had I quilted it to death, it would not have the same warm come cuddle with me vibe.

The little trees added a bit of whimsy but not too much.  To me this quilt says "Let's cozy up on the couch with a good book and a ...

Cabin In The Woods Quilt Top from Podunk Pretties

If I were to tell you I was making a red and green quilt would you automatically think "She's making a Christmas quilt?  Second question...Do you think this looks like a Christmas quilt?

I'm hoping the answer is NO.  My original plan for this quilt was a Christmas theme.  I spent many hours trying to come up with an applique plan.  Christmas Trees, Snowmen, Snowflakes, Gnomes and Santa's Sleigh with reindeer were all ideas that just didn't feel/look right.  Why does it need to be a Christmas themed quilt?  Shifting the way I think ...

Argyle UFO Quilt Options from Podunk Pretties

Hi Quilty Friends!  After spending two days of errands, chores and cooking, I'm in need of a little me time in the Studio.  There's two new quilt ideas in the works but I'm just not feeling it right now.  My heart says to work on a UFO.  This Argyle quilt was laying on the top of the stack.

It was the test piece for my Nordic Christmas Memories quilt below.

The way I look at it, I have three options for finishing this one.

1. sew the bottom section to the top and call it a quilt ...

Back Door Beauty Quilt Finish ~ UFO #8 from Podunk Pretties

Hey Friends!  My Back Door Beauty quilt is UFO quilt #8 for 2023!  It's been a few months since finishing a UFO quilt top.

The last UFO completed was Scrap Buster Baskets on April 15.  If you would like to see more of this quilt you can find it here.   Sometime near the end of the year I need to tally up how many quilts were finished in 2023.  I made a few gingham quilts, quilts for the grands, and charity quilts.  I'm pretty sure it will be the most I've ever made in one year.  Most ...

I Need Some Bright And Happy from Podunk Pretties

Hello Quilty Friends!  After months of working with not so loved fabrics, it's time to recharge my quilty soul.  Nothing makes this gals heart go pitter pat like a bright and happy quilt.  Oh, I have a ton of ideas for new quilts but I also have a ton of quilt tops needing to be quilted.  So I grabbed the one on the top of the stack.

This one was made back in 2014 and is called Back Door Beauty. It took some digging on my blog to find the start date and quilt details.  If you're looking ...

Scrap Buster Baskets ~ UFO Quilt #7 2023 Finished! from Podunk Pretties

Hello Quilty Friends!  I'm so excited to have another UFO finish!   Scrap Buster Baskets is fairly small, measures about 58 x 64.  I designed and made it back in 2021.

As with all my finished quilt tops she became a UFO because I couldn't come up with a quilting plan and I prefer to design and make quilt tops.

When I pulled her out over a month ago I had a pretty good idea of how I would quilt the blocks.  The sashing and border were the problem.  As a general rule of thumb when doing custom quilting ...

Border Quilting and a Throwback Cutie from Podunk Pretties

Hi Quilty Friends!  It's happening!  I'm finally quilting my Scrap Buster Baskets quilt.  YeeHaw!  In my previous post about this quilt I said I was going to give my quilty brain until last Friday to come up with a quilting plan or she would go back into storage.  That didn't happen and here's why.

It's as simple as the argumentative me, myself and I had a problem with this decision.  The arguments were valid so WE had to take them into consideration. The top three arguments from me, myself and I were...

Argument 1:  It ...

Bumpkin Pumpkins ~ UFO Quilt #6 2023 from Podunk Pretties

Bumpkin Pumpkins is finally finished!  This UFO is about 4 or 5 years old.  It's one of my own original designs.  The quilting was finished months ago on October 15, 2022.  The next day I sewed the binding on the front of the quilt with every intentions of having this gal done before Halloween 2022.  As you can see that didn't happen.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of orange or black I really like how this one turned out and I can't wait to use it this coming fall.

It could be the many ...

Amour Cerise or Amour De Cerise?~ UFO Quilt #5 2023 from Podunk Pretties

Hello Quilting friends!  Today I'm excited to share my Amour Cerise(Cherry Love) quilt.

Quilted, bound, washed and ready to be stored away until Valentines Day next year.

The quilting was kept somewhat simple. Lots of stitch in the ditch and free motion feathers.

The applique is fusible raw edge with 100 wt. thread to hold it into place.

The large crosshatching is spaced every 2 inches and was marked 100% before putting it on the quilting frame.

I decided to see if I could find some of this fabric for sale online.  There was no plan to purchase ...

Four Lone Star Quilts Finished ~ UFO Quilt #4 2023 from Podunk Pretties

I'm so excited to finally share this quilt with you.  It is one of four Lone Star quilts I made last year.  When I say last year I mean from Thanksgiving 2022 to December 24, 2022.  The quilt you see below is the first quilt top made.  Over the years I've made several Lone Stars and learned a lot of tricks but you know how it is, you can know all the tricks and things can still go bad.  That's exactly what happened with this one.  It was so bad I told my husband that I was ...

Shabby Love ~ UFO Quilt #3 2023 from Podunk Pretties

Do you remember when Wal-Mart had a huge fabric department and would have a quilt of the month?  This was way back in the late 90's early 2000.  The pattern would have a free pattern for the taking.  You didn't even need to purchase fabric to get the free pattern.  Every month I would get the pattern but would rarely the fabric due to money was tight when the kids were still at home.

All but the background fabrics in this quilt are from Wal-Mart.  I never made the free quilt pattern but in 2014 I added some ...

Autumn Stars ~ UFO Quilt #2 2023 from Podunk Pretties

One of the best things about finishing UFO's is the  memories put into to each quilt.  With this quilt I was at a loss for what inspired this odd for me colorway.  A quick search for the quilt on my blog and I found the inspiration was a trip to the mailbox on a beautiful fall day while wearing a flannel shirt.  What can I say...I'm an odd critter and never know what will inspire my quilty brain.  You can find the original post here.  And then here as a forgotten UFO.

I do remember thinking about ...

Pocketful of Starlight Quilt ~ UFO Quilt #1 2023 from Podunk Pretties

My first finish of 2023!  Yippee!  We know this quilt as The Hummingbird or Periwinkle but I'm calling mine Pocketful of Starlight.

The name comes from a song my dad used to sing when I was little.  I'm sure most of you know the song.
